A backup should belong to your organisation. After decrypt you get a standard SQL dump — the kind you load with PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server tools, without an obligation to keep using DominusVault.

Free still decrypts
After the trial, Free limits new backups, but decrypting and restoring existing .dvb archives remains available.
You hold the key
Recovery needs your installation encryption key. Without it the archive is unreadable — that protects the data; it is not lock-in to us.
How it works
How to leave with your data if you stop using the product
Keep the installation key
The same key from setup or Settings — in your organisation password manager.
Decrypt .dvb in the panel
In DominusVault (including Free edition): decrypt or import the file and download the resulting SQL.
Load the dump in the engine
On the target host use a standard engine tool (e.g. pgAdmin / psql, MySQL client, SSMS). The DominusVault panel is no longer required.
No vendor lock-in
What to keep in mind
DominusVault creates full logical database copies. It does not replace point-in-time recovery (PITR). Recovery without the organisation key is impossible by design — the same as with encrypted backups from other systems.
